Provided Peer Navigator Training for 29 clients from southern Illinois. HIV 101; Prevention for Positives; Retention in Care; and Adherence are all components of the training. These clients are newly diagnosed to long term survivors.
Providing educational opportunities as well as emotional support and being with other HIV+ people proves to be helpful in retention.

From HIV/AIDS Provider –> Heart of Illinois HIV/AIDS Center, Transportation is a big problem.
Availability of Infection Disease or HIV specialized care, culturally competent Primary Care Providers in rural areas of the state. Unfortunately, if you have those providers available, communities still must overcome their attitudes towards HIV which perpetuates stigma. The few individuals in rural areas are not about to seek medical attention in their own communities for fear of someone finding out.
Problems with medication refills and ever changing formularies, meds previously covered by Medicaid no longer covered. The nursing staff dedicates hours upon hours checking pharmaceutical prescription drug programs for people.
Other challenges primarily related to co-morbid conditions related to aging; hypertension, diabetes, asthma, etc. Other challenges we are faced with is the lack of Medicaid providers and dental providers.
